BECOME a MENTOR with a LOCAL YOUNG PERSON from ROSEBUD SECONDARY COLLEGE

The BEAM Mentoring Program (Belonging, Engagement and Meaning) is a major project for Rotary Rosebud-Rye - an investment over the 2023/2024 year of $79,000 and continuing into the 2024/2025 year.

The program develops trusting, supportive relationships between carefully selected and trained community volunteers with at-risk junior secondary students. The volunteers have a 1:1 hour-long session every week, with volunteers passing on life skills, building self-esteem and personal development.

What would you need to do? Activities can involve just talking, playing cards, cooking, physical activities, art, music - or whatever the mentee student chooses .... as well as regular group sessions that focus on issues pertinent to the students involved.

And the impact?

       - Student independence to turn up to the weekly mentor sessions

       - Excellent attendance at session

       - Positive student engagement and classroom teachers have noticed positive                                     engagement transferring to class in many instances

       - And the mentors expressed a sense of purpose and appreciate being involved

Making an Impact - Our Partnership with Young Change Agents (YCA)

Young Change Agents (YCA) empowers young people to identify problems in their community, reframing these as opportunities, and developing solutions with an entrepreneurial lens. The aim is to make it easy for schools and teachers to introduce and embed entrepreneurial learning and design thinking.

Through our partnership with Young Change Agents, who received Victorian Government funding of $143,000 continued at July 2024 we have now helped to positively impact the learning of 900 primary and secondary students who participated in the program over the past two years.

A great program and one that Rotarians are proud to be a part of.
